City Links Program
Local officials in all countries share common problems—albeit with varying degrees of severity. ICMA CityLinks allows city officials in developing countries to draw on the resources of their U.S. counterparts to find sustainable solutions tailored to the real needs of their cities. In other words, CityLinks improves the capacity of cities to provide quality services to their residents, create a better living space for the community—and sustain those improvements long after the program has ended. Greater Annamites Sustainable Finance Project
The project goal is to develop sustainable finance mechanisms to support biodiversity in the Greater Annamites and GMS. One pilot site will be established to secure environmental services agreements over large areas of the Central Truong Son Landscape in Vietnam. Winrock will provide technical support for biodiversity conservation activities development in Cambodia. Read more.
International Real Property Fund East Africa Regional Training and Administrative Center
The East African Regional Training and Administrative Center program is a mechanism to deliver technical assistance at an affordable price for newer associations in Uganda and Rwanda and the established one in Kenya. IRPF anticipates that each country will be autonomous and self-contained even though services will be operationally channeled through this regional center. The plan is to offer core programs to strengthen the institutional capacity in each association through a) evaluating strategic planning and business plans, b) reviewing membership development, c) identifying value-added services, and d) discussing the potential for a data aggregation program. Successful Public-Private Partnerships Create Sustainability in Philippines' Negros Oriental Dairy Zone
During the years 2008 and 2009, as part of the USDA-funded Food for Progress FY 2006 (FFP FY06) project in Philippines, Land O’Lakes International Development successfully created a dairy zone in the province of Negros Oriental. Land O’Lakes supported this dairy zone for 18 months by distributing 214 dairy cows to small farmers, installing three milk collection centers and a milk processing plant, providing matching funds for a school milk feeding program, and providing various technical assistance and trainings in dairy- and livestock-related topics to the farmers through its extension staff and consultants.
From the beginning of this dairy zone project, Land O’Lakes mobilized the support of local private and government partners to create the long-term sustainability of this project beyond the life of the FFP FY06 program. Read more.
Aid to Artisans Ghana
According to a case study funded by the Ford Foundation, ATA has had a major impact on the Ghanaian export market. Ghana’s exports increased from $160,000 in 1989 to US $11 million in 2002. Adu Mensah, the general manager of the Ghana Export Promotion Council attributed 60% of this increase to the efforts of ATAG and ATA. Numerous craft enterprises are now capable of filling orders of $100,000 and more. Read more.
