Institute for International Education: Women in Technology Partnership Expands Workforce Participation
IIE implements the Women in Technology (WIT) program, a public-private partnership with Microsoft Corporation and Cisco Systems under sponsorship by the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), WIT helps women in the Middle East and North Africa attain marketable high-tech skills. Originally started in Yemen, the program has expanded to Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, and Lebanon.
WIT strives to empower women and expand their participation in the workforce by providing cutting-edge curricula and training opportunities in Business Planning, Professional Development and Information Technology.
CDC Development Solutions: The Souss Massa Draa Regional Council in Morocco Promotes Tourism
The Regional Council of Souss Massa Drâa is a government agency in
Morocco that is tasked with driving economic and social development of the Souss Massa Drâa region. Through a partnership with IBM’s Corporate Service Corps, CDS partnered with the Regional Council on a tourism and investment promotion. The team developed a framework and plan to create a tourism network and provided recommendations and design plans for online promotional tools and improvements to the Regional Council’s website. The team also added features to the website that serve as promotional tools for Souss Massa Draa Investment Funds.
ACDI / VOCA: Sustainable Cocoa Enterprise Solutions for Smallholders (SUCCESS) Alliance Improves Livelihoods
ACDI/VOCA is a founding member of the “Sustainable Cocoa Enterprise Solutions for Smallholders (SUCCESS) Alliance,” which improves the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by promoting cocoa production and marketing in a way that is economically, environmentally, socially and culturally sustainable.
The SUCCESS
Alliance receives funding from the USDA, USAID, and from private sector partners including the World Cocoa Foundation and its member companies such as Kraft Foods, Cargill, and Nestle. SUCCESS Alliance is active in Ecuador, Liberia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. ACDI/VOCA has also integrated cocoa program components in Bolivia and Sierra Leone.
Winrock International: Renewable Energy Alliance Develops Market Linkages in Mindanao
The Alliance for Mindanao Off-grid Renewable Energy (AMORE) Program is a partnership of governments, principally of USAID, the Philippines
Department of Energy, and private sector partners the Mirant Philippines Foundation and Sunpower Corporation. It is administered by Winrock International and is bringing renewable energy-based social services to rural communities in three areas - Rural Electrification through Renewable Energy (RE), School Electrification and Distance Education (SEDE), and Wash, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH).
