Long-Term Business Advisers Program

Implementing Organization:
Institute for International Education

In March of 2008, The Institute for International Education (IIE), aVEGA member organization, implemented the Long-Term Business Advisers Program (LTBA) in Kazakhstan through its Emerging Market Development Advisers Program (EMDAP). LTBA/EMDAP aims to develop and enhance the competitiveness of the country's private sector with the ultimate goal of promoting growth in the local economy.

After gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and undergoing a substantial political, economic, and social transformation, Kazakhstan is now undergoing a period of tremendous growth and prosperity. The burgeoning economy offers promising opportunities for investment and joint ventures. Ensuring the success of economic partnerships in Kazakhstan's environment requires a focus on rule-of-law, tax reform and transparency, as well as reduced tolerance for corruption. Advancing these areas in the national economy will in turn improve the Kazakhstan’s international standard of governance, quality of service and product delivery and establish the capacity to run with global partners on a level playing field.

Leveraging the business management knowledge and technical expertise of recent graduate students, VEGA identified a highly qualified volunteer expert to assist the USAID Central Asia Republics Mission.
