To increase the capacity of small and medium-sized business, local government, and supporting organizations to be more profitable and efficient using technology, Geekcorps draws on a database of more than 3,500 technical experts willing to share their talents and experience in developing nations. Institute for International Education “Women in Technology” Program
Women in Technology (WIT) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region was funded by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the U.S. Department of State, managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) West Coast Center and implemented in collaboration with local partners in nine countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Yemen. Since its launch in 2005, WIT trained over 11,000 women and built the capacity of nearly 60 local women’s organizations in the Middle East. Read more...
CDC Development Solution’s Corporate Volunteering Program: IBM Supports Electricity Company of Ghana to Standardize IT Systems
“In just under a month, the IBM consultants enabled the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to accomplish what would have taken us possibly a year to do. These systems will enable us to deliver more cost-effective and efficient services to our customers,” said Julius Kpekpena, Director of Engineering, ECG. The IBM team of 11 experts from 8 countries arrived in Ghana in February for the one-month project, under the company’s Corporate Service Corps initiative. During that time the consultants worked on a pro bono basis with the ECG, the Tema Technical Institute, and the SOS Children's Village. The projects were tailored to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the three institutions by utilising the latest technologies and business processes. Read More...
ACDI / VOCA: Using Technology to Connect Smallholder Indian Farmers to Markets
Recognizing the opportunities offered by India’s horticulture production, ACDI/VOCA has worked to provide farmers with technical information and help them meet the demands of various sales outlets. Our work there has focused on integrating smallholder horticulture farmers into commercial supply chains and facilitating mutually beneficial partnerships between smallholder farmers and major retail, wholesale, processor and export buyers. To help bridge the information gap between farmers and markets, ACDI/VOCA worked with Indian IT giant Infosys Limited to create an information dissemination system called freshConnect. Read More...

The Production, Finance, and Technology (PROFIT) program is increasing industry growth while alleviating household poverty. This is accomplished through enhanced value added production and service technologies and increased access to financial and business development services. Program objectives work to improve the capacity and competitiveness of high potential industries in which large numbers of micro and small agricultural and natural product enterprises (MSEs), including producers and processors, contribute and benefit in order to effectively compete in the near, medium, and long term.
