VEGA 2009 Annual Report Highlights of our 2009 programs include trade and export promotion in Ethiopia, strengthening of tourism associations in Jordan and enhancing value chains for farmers in Bolivia. Our advisers promoted economic growth strategies that led to attractive business climates in places such as Armenia, Indonesia and Kazakhstan. VEGA also maintained its efforts in post confl ict areas and regions affected by natural disasters. We concluded a large agricultural program in Afghanistan and began a program in Sri Lanka, utilizing the collaborative efforts of four VEGA member organizations, to deliver assistance to SMEs, agribusinesses and associations and provide capacity development to local government and private sector organizations. We also initiated a new microfinance focused program in Lebanon, which effected almost immediate impact in the first year by working with local microfi nance institutions to disburse approximately $1,545,532 in microloans.
